Catalytic converter theft can take less than a minute and leave vehicle owners facing costly repair bills. Thieves target catalytic converters because they contain valuable metals that can be sold for profit.

🔍 Why Are Catalytic Converters Stolen?

Catalytic converters contain precious metals such as platinum, palladium and rhodium.

Criminals can quickly remove them from vehicles using basic tools, often causing significant damage in the process

Certain vehicles, particularly hybrid models and those with higher ground clearance, may be more attractive targets.

Warning Signs

⚠️ A loud roaring or exhaust noise when starting your vehicle.

⚠️ Reduced vehicle performance.

⚠️ A visible section missing from the exhaust system underneath the vehicle.

If you notice any of these signs, have your vehicle checked by a qualified mechanic.

How to Protect Your Vehicle

🚙 Park in a garage whenever possible.

💡 If parking outside, choose a well-lit, busy location.

📹 Consider installing CCTV, motion-activated lighting, or a vehicle security camera.

🔒 Fit a catalytic converter lock, shield, or protective marking system.

🚗 Park close to walls, fences, or other vehicles where practical to restrict access underneath your vehicle.

🏷️ Mark and register your catalytic converter to make it harder for criminals to sell.

🚨 If You Believe Your Catalytic Converter Has Been Stolen

📞 Report the theft to police as soon as possible.

📸 Take photographs of the damage if it is safe to do so.

📍 Record where and when the vehicle was last seen intact.

📄 Contact your insurance provider to discuss a claim.

🚫 Avoid driving the vehicle unless necessary, as further damage may occur.
